Growing up, my stepdad believed that everyone in the family should pitch in around the house. He’d show us how to do something once, and after that, his rule was simple: “The best way to learn is to do it yourself.” He expected us to do things right, and if we didn’t, we’d keep at it until we got it right.

That mindset gave me an early introduction to home repairs and instilled in me a strong work ethic—work smart, do it well, and always finish what you start.

I met my wife when we were just 17, and we married at 20. Within five years, we had three boys, which meant money was tight. If something broke, I had to fix it myself. Over the years, hands-on experience—combined with my background in roofing, carpet installation, and landscaping—gave me a deep and practical knowledge of home repairs, renovations, and outdoor improvements.

Nine years ago, after being laid off as a machinist for the second time, I asked my wife to post an ad on Craigslist offering yard care and handyman services. That simple ad led to a yard maintenance business, which quickly grew to include handyman services. Two years ago, I earned my contractor’s license, allowing us to expand into full renovation work and hardscape installations. While we no longer offer routine yard maintenance, we still take on one-time yard cleanups and pruning.

Running this business together wasn’t our original plan, but we soon realized we made a great team—just like in life. My wife manages the marketing, invoicing, and scheduling while also working alongside me on many projects. My broad experience, combined with her communication skills and attention to detail, has been the perfect match.

This business isn’t just a job—it’s something I love. I enjoy working with my hands, the variety of projects, and helping people. Best of all, I get to do it with my best friend.
